i don't think i'm serious about this but, i do like the idea of changing my name. maybe not now, but in the future.
i like anna (pronounced ahh-nah) which is my middle name, and then wiiken (pronounced vee-ken) as my last name, which is my mom's maiden name.
JUST THINKIN' BOUT IT
adventures in boston with lauren and bryan tonight!

my arm is sore from my tetanus shot. it looks like i don't have to go to work this week because there are no classes. it's sad that my internship is almost over because it was so great and i learned so much. but i am looking forward to doing nothing for awhile, or well less. i decided that my next tattoo is going to be ginsberg's face, on my foot. time feels slow. vermont news can't be arriving sooner, i am anxious.

tonight while making dinner my mom dropped a large knife. the large knife decided to fall on my bare foot. there was lots of blood and now i am having trouble walking.
on a happier note, i bought tickets for the bon iver show in portland. isadora and i are going to visit miss phoebe harris and it is going to be a mini comstock reunion.

ANNA GASKELL: her photographs remind me of a book that my mother had when i was little from the early 1900's about a group of "snow people" who lured a small girl out into the cold, and after playing with her, they left her to fall asleep in the snow and eventually die. these photographs are like pictures from a story, with missing words, except the words are not needed in this case. these portraits, almost always involving children are delicate, vulnerable and spooky, and i can't help but be drawn to them. my favorite of her work is the catalogue for the show "half life".
i listened to deja entendu on my drive home from boston tonight. i was 14 again watching the video for quiet things and believing the jesse lacey was a god among men. it made we think of when other things began. today in class steve was talking about tips on diluting developer that emmet gowin told him years ago and again it was weird to remember that i'm a part of this whole art world now. people i know have works in museums and they have guggenheim fellowships and their own gallery openings and photo books. it's not this fantastic out of reach world that i have long thought about, it's real now. and it's the only thing i want to talk about and look at and be around. i'm going to start posting a photographer of the day, because i update this blog that often and i like to share with people things that give me satisfaction, like a good photograph.

i'm laying in my bed in the dark with the fan on listening to jens lekman. i went to the stone zoo today with dory and kelsey, we saw bears and flamingos and ate ice cream. i can't stop thinking about being somewhere else. i've been selling my things online non-stop, if i could, i would give it all away. i miss bike rides with lauren, oklahoma needs to let her come back to andover. not looking forward to spending 12 hours at the hospital tomorrow. i'm excited to visit phoebe in maine, even though it is a long time away, i think that dory is going to come too. i want it to rain right now and i want to be in a place that i want to be in, not one that i settle for.

I GOT THROUGH TODAY
morning: waking up at 7, filming a bunch of art history classes, giving a tour to seventh graders who didn't want to be looking at art, observing a painful tour of teenagers who also didn't seem to want to be at the museum
afternoon: a wonderful visit at the addison from christine and zach, we walked around and talked, designing a terrible invitation for a museum event
evening: hour commute into boston, sitting in the photo room because i got there too early, THE BEST CLASS EVER, being the youngest person in the room, name dropping the addison, running through north station carrying a view camera and a tripod, not being attacked alone on the train late at night
i'm going to finish watching eraserhead now.
i hope it's not like pulling teeth again at the museum tomorrow...
i miss lauren panichelli

tomorrow i have to give a tour completely on my own and welcome the class (60!) and be a grown up and responsible and engage in large amounts of public speaking. also, i have to figure out an alternate way into boston because my parents don't think the orange line is safe at 10 pm when i am by myself. i'm thinking of just lying to them and parking at wellington. these days i don't even look that much like a girl, i don't think i will be getting hit on/attacked in any manner. i hope my photo class isn't awkward, even though it probably will be. i hope that my classmates are old people. i don't know why but i do. my head is throbbing and i just want to make a smoothie and watch eraserhead. my mom is burning the meatballs, oh no...
